Laser Hair Removal

Throw away your razor, tweezers and wax for good!

Removal of unwanted hair has become one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in recent years for women and men. Lasers are a new modality for the fast, gentle removal of unwanted hair. Due to its popularity, many not so qualified people have started to perform the procedures. Consumers contemplating laser hair removal should be an educated consumer and understand that they need a proper evaluation by a physician who understands the skin types, the energy settings necessary to avoid complications and who has expertise to have researched the best and most efficacious technology out there.

Laser hair removal is a non-invasive method of photo-epilation, which does not require needles or messy chemical creams. Since thousands of hairs can be zapped in a single treatment session, large areas like the back, shoulders, arms and legs can be quickly and effectively treated.

Although permanent hair removal is the goal of therapy, some clients may experience hair re-growth that is usually finer and lighter in color. You may experience temporary redness and mild "sunburn"- like effect that may last a few hours to a few days after treatment. Possible side effects, though very rare, may include damage to the surrounding healthy tissue in the form of scars, burns, redness and swelling.

Special considerations are important when lasers are used on darker skin tones to allow for safe and effective treatment.

Unfortunately in NY, lasers can be operated by anyone. In essence, anyone can purchase a laser, and perform laser hair removal without any qualifications.

At Glow Medi-SPA, all laser treatments are medically supervised by our physician and surgeon who will decide what laser is the best for you.

Hair removal before and after

How does the procedure work?

At Glow MediSPA, we only use the best laser for hair removal. We can treat ALL skin types from the fairest to the darkest to the tannest! Our Hair removal laser is the only laser to be contracted by the U.S. army for treatment of pseudo-folliculitis barbae, AKA ingrown hairs of the beard.

The surface of the skin is cooled by a gel applied immediately before and after treatment, and by the cooling head of the laser handpiece which glides over the skin.

The steps:
Step 1. We Shave the treatment area.
Step 2. We Place the pulsed light handpiece on the area to be treated.
Step 3. The handpiece emits a beam of intense pulsed light, which is absorbed by the hair follicles and converted to heat.
Step 4. The heat disables the hair follicles.

Laser hair removal process

Some of the hair is wiped off immediately after treatment, and the rest is shed over the next 2-3 weeks. The hair roots which have been destroyed are reabsorbed by the body.

The laser can be used almost anywhere on the body, even sensitive areas such as the nipples, upper lip and bikini line can be treated easily and with minimal discomfort. Occasionally people experience a snapping sensation or a mild sting. Typically we do not need to use anesthetic creams, although clients can take a Tylenol or Advil beforehand.

In women, the most common areas for treatment are upper lip, chin, bikini line, arms and legs, and underarms.

In men, the most common areas for treatment are shoulders and back, eyebrows and the beard area.

Why should you consider laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is convenient, safe and efficient compared to any other hair removal option out there. While no laser can guarantee hair free skin, lasers will remove up to 90% of hair within 4 to 6 treatments. Multiple treatments are needed because the not all hair follicles are in the same growth cycle and the laser targets actively growing hairs.

Just imagine no longer needing to dedicate extra time for shaving, using messy solutions, painful electrolysis or scheduling time for torturous waxing appointments. And unlike these prior treatments, Pulsed Light can remove/treat hair before it becomes visible.

What about the expense?

At first glance, the cost of laser hair removal can seem deceptively high. In the long run laser hair removal is the smart and economical way to remove unwanted hair. If you consider waxing options done at a spa or salon for a bikini, underarm, legs and upper lip wax. Generally the cost would be approximately $80.00 to $100.00 every 4 to 6 weeks for wax alone. Over a year, that amounts to roughly $600.00. If you multiply $600.00 over several years, it becomes clear how much more economical sense laser hair removal makes.
